What Does It Mean to Be Truly Human?

As we continue to focus on identity issues, perhaps one of the biggest question mankind has to answer is.....

What Does It Mean to Be Truly Human?

Watch the video featuring Jefferson Bethke as he tries to answer this very question. Give me your thoughts in at least 50 words by Sunday 2/9

  1. This video showed me what it means to be truly human. I loved how he gave examples and how he use C.S. Lewis book the great divorce about how C.S. Lewis paint a picture of hell where a person is a thousand miles away from their closest neighbor and live in a world of loneliness but they chose that path. It was awesome how he said we are made in the image of Christ. It was cool how he said we could tell you what everyone in the world eat in 2013 but at the same time live in a world of isolation.

  2. The video was excellent at explaining what it is to be truly human. To be truly human, we have to be in a community. In C.S Lewis book, The Great Divorce, He describes hell as being in an isolated prison. We were made in the image of God, and The preimage was a community: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost. The Church is a community and we must attend fellowship with fellow brothers and sisters. Fellowship doesn't just mean church, but bible study, youth groups and conferences, etc.

  3. This video is trying to show people how to be truly human. In the book by C.S Lewis, he talks about what he thinks hell is like. He thinks it is like a person is isolated from everyone else. To truly be a human we have to be part of a community.

  4. The video was good in showing what it's like to be human. Because we were made in the image of Christ and God is a community with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. To be human is not to hide but be open with other people and to be vulnerable.

  5. This video was actually pretty good, it was showing what it truly means to be human. We were made in the image of God, and the preimage was a community God the Fther, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We are all whether we like it or not borthers and sisters in Christ so we should love one another as Christ loves us.

  6. The video was good and gave a good insight on what being human means. One good point he made was that we have to be vulnerable, meaning put our self's out there, and not try to do it alone, because he said god didn't make humans, and leave them to do things on there own.

  7. This video had a lot of good points in it and the fact that he stated the example of liking a status or post saying that someone's having problems won't actually help solve the problem. To be truly human is to be one with your neighbour and to not isolate yourself with materiel things

  8. This video seems to contradict what I believe, which is that what makes us human is our ability to hold this information from everyone and our ability to believe in something that we can't see or feel and yet somehow say it is there. When we keep our secrets, to me it shows that we have a conscience that can tell us what should and shouldn't be known. For why would we have everything known about us and let others that may have their own secrets use that information to tear us down.

  10. This video showed me how to be an human being. This showed me that we should treat each other as we want to be treated. God made us in his image so we should treat our selves in that way.

  11. We cannot be truly human if we are not open with others and true to others. When we don't communicate to others we are basically stripping ourselves of humanity. Because God made us in his image. To love you have to be honest open, and transparent. To love you have to be vulnerable.

  12. We need to let our guard down sometimes to have joy because if we never open up to other people we will be lonely and never give or receive joy. we need to be "honest, open, and transparent" with one another so that we will not be lonely and so that we can find joy.

  13. I enjoyed the deepth of this video and the honesty the speaker shared. To me being Human is to be open to life, grow in all areas (physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually), and to constantly express our individuality. Of course in life things are set to discourage us. But it's to us as Children of God to always trust in Him and be truly fearless!

  14. The video was great with explaining how to be truly human. That we need to open up more to others. You can not truly be human without expressing how you feel to others. In my opinion to truly live and being truly human you have to allow yourself to live with out regret. Learn to open up to people.

  15. This video has greatly explained what it truly means to be a human. That we need to open our world to others. If we block out others out we cannot truly be human.

  16. Dear Mr.Davis this video was very well said i believe and i agree with him, when he says a lot of people stick the the cleanliness and safety of being alone and non vulnerable, he says c.s. lewis says it in one of his books that hell is an isolated place no one is around you fro thousands of miles, and that we should get together in a community and open to others

    sincerely,

  17. He brings up interesting points, and he's clearly a smart guy. He points out that while we can lock ourselves away, we will be impervious to others hurting us. But, we can't let them make us feel better, and in the end the isolation we brought on ourselves hurts us. It is better to trust, even bordering on naivete, and take a chance of pain, than loneliness and guaranteed pain.
