Comedy as a media tool
Comedy offers many advantages of enriching our lives. As you are already probably aware of, modern science has done extensive research on the health benefits of laughter and humor.
At the same time, comedy is also a very powerful cultural medium. First and foremost, it contributes to our mindset and the lens through which we view and interpret our lived experiences. Further, comedy gives us a familiar venue to critically consider our own intellectual growth and development and that of American society as a whole. Thus, in very substantial and meaningful ways, comedy is often used to clarify cultural norms and values. Most comedy routines, therefore, have a very specific agenda---political, ethical, economic, etc--under the guise of entertainment. Yet, to be sure, this development of comedy is not new to the millennium generation. Thus, this week I want you to watch and evaluate an older comedy routine. I want you to pinpoint the main agenda of the comedian and give your 50-word personal evaluation of his performance. Link here

The main agenda of the comedian was entertain the crowd by talking about the impossible things in life. At the beginning of the video, Michael Davis was talking about a Comic says funny things and a Comedian says thing funny so I must be a juggler. Then, He starts juggling a pair of oranges and adds a third one by holding it in his hand. Afterwards, He was acted out the situation where he is juggling while driving a motorcycle. The tennis balls went behind him quickly when he was driving a motorcycle. Finally, his last trick was juggling a bowling ball, an apple, and a egg, but first he got someone in the audience to throw the apple at him. When the apple was thrown, he started juggling and eating the apple at the same time, until he ate the egg. My personal evaluation of his performance is that I like how he used imagery and props while telling jokes to make people laugh. We need more comedians like Michael Davis to entertain us visually as well talking to us. My favorite part of the performance is when he was juggling and he tried to do some fancy tricks with the oranges. Michael Davis is going to be on my list of favorite comedians.
ReplyDeleteI think the main agenda of the comedian, Michael Davis, was to entertain the audience with someone people really don't see as often. He juggled small things at first whilst talking to the crowd keeping them calm but once he started to go into various other things he tried to juggle, like the egg, the apple, and the bowling ball, I feel like people became surprised. I mean, bowling balls are heavy and an egg is the most easiest to crack so why would you attempt to juggle them? But he did and he was very successful at doing so as well.
ReplyDeleteThis video was actually very entertaining to watch. I honestly thought this would be a tad bit stupid but it was clean and had some very funny moments like the part when he got one of the people in front to throw him the apple but he threw it too early and it landed on the floor. There should be more comedians like him. Clean and fun – something to entertain all ages no matter who they are and that's definitely something Michael Davis has seem to accomplish.

The balls he was juggling went flying behind him while he was driving the "motorcycle". The last thing he did was juggling a bowling ball, an apple, and a egg. He got someone in the audience to throw the apple to him. The person threw the apple and he started juggling and eating the apple at the same time then he ate the egg. My personal evaluation of Michael Davis' performance is he was very funny, a good performer, and a good juggler. He was a very good entertainer and i really enjoyed this video.
ReplyDeleteI think the main agenda of Micheal Davis, was to make the crowd think about the things he was say. Yes, the words and his actions were funny but once you listen to them you realized that he was just playing around. The things like would seem to be impossible he just makes a funny joke out of it.I personally did not find the video that funny. The things that he was poking fun of was kinda just a little lame to me. He knew how to keep the crowd going knowing how to keep the attention on him. Michel Davis was very clean most comedians are not like that these days. I just didn't find the things he did funny but they were cool in a sense.

The first joke he told about how a comic say funny things and a comedian says thing funny and he must be a juggler then out of no where he started juggling. Then he had an impression of a man juggling on a motorcycle. In my point of view he is not funny but his juggling routine kept the peoples attention .If he was a comedian today he wouldn't make it he will do birthday parties for a living as a clown
ReplyDeleteThe main agenda of the comedian is to spark the audience’s laughter through the fascination of tricks and the cleverness of his jokes. The comedian’s ability to perform seemingly magic acts and combine them with unusual humor was very entertaining to me. Though in his performance, he demonstrates his ability to be both a comic and a comedian.
ReplyDeleteI think the main agenda of michael davis was to make the audience laugh. He did it in ways that we dont really see as humor. and he makes many of his jokes through intelligence. He did mess up a few times but it was to help his act and to make it funnier. He was pretty funny, but not really in a comedian type of way,his jokes were goofy
ReplyDeleteThe main agenda of the comedian Micheal Davis was to make his audience laugh, by saying something, and then turning it into a funny joke.Then he continues to bring in tricks and get the expectations of the audience up, then he doesn't do it and turns it into a joke, because the audience were expecting him to do a big trick when he was juggling in the middle of the video. The whole point of the video was the comedian trying tho make the audience laugh by giving them a funny joke, one after the other
ReplyDeleteThis video wasn't anything special, just a comedian making his audience laugh. He wasn't poking fun at religion, authority or politics, just himself. He used his audience as part of his act. His juggling wasn't anything impressive, it was only his delivery that received some laughs from his audience. In other words, apa-apa yang luar biasa

During his show he juggled one ball and he said it was hard ,then he juggled two balls and then he was doing two and had a third one in his other hand. His last trick was juggling a bowling ball, an egg, and an apple that he was eating at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI think his main purpose of preforming was to make the audience laugh at himself and not make fun of anything that would be bad or hurtful to some nation of the world...He did tricks some impressive and some not so much but all made his crowd laugh because of his sense of humor spread through out the room.
ReplyDeleteI think the video showed how comedy can be shown in a variety of ways. the purpose of the video was to make the audience laugh which he acccomplsihed, just not as your regular comedian would. it was still funny though.Michael davis still made the audience laugh and at the end that's all that matters
ReplyDeleteHis goal was to make people laugh which he did. Even if it meant embarrassing himself. He used a person in the audience to help him be funny. When he was juggling he said a good juggler can look away while juggling and he moved his head but still kept his eyes on the ball, trying to act like a good juggler. I thought he was funny.
ReplyDeleteThe comedians goal in the video seemed to point out all of the funny unrecognized parts of everyday activities and thoughts that we overlook. His act was excellent for he pointed out what a person could do yet he didn't do it himself which most would expect him to do what he said others could do.
ReplyDeleteWe all knew what the comedian goal was, to make the audience laugh, some didn't realize that some of it wasn't being pointed out it was in recongnized. Some come out of a laugh in everyday things. That what some expected him to do others just a laugh
